Anxiety Iceburg

Below the Surface

Everyone thought I was fine.

I showed up to work. I answered messages. I smiled when I needed to. From the outside, maybe I looked a little tired, a bit irritable, occasionally distant. Nothing alarming. Nothing worth mentioning.

But underneath that — underneath what anyone could see — there was a whole other world running constantly.

The overthinking that started the moment I woke up. The intrusive thoughts I couldn't switch off. The shame I carried about things I couldn't even name. The body tension that never fully left. The insomnia that meant I faced every day already exhausted.

Nobody saw any of that. How could they? I didn't show it. Honestly, I didn't fully understand it myself.

That's the thing about anxiety. What you see on the surface — the irritability, the withdrawal, the low mood — that's just the tip. The real weight is everything beneath the waterline. The stuff that has no name in polite conversation.

I didn't need someone to fix me. I needed someone to help me see what was actually going on below the surface.

That was the beginning of things getting better.
